It's a cake!- some thoughts on "fasting bread"+.

It is a Sunday evening and my family is much better, thank you for your prayers. I have just finished reading the  book by Wayne Weible on Fasting  "The Medjugorje Fasting Book" and than my mind just goes to various books and articles people have written on this topic. I can remember that famous "fasting bread" coming up from Sister Emmanuelle with almonds, honey, eggs, olive oil etc ... What a fast! First time I have heard about it I wanted to sit in my car and go tell her "It's a cake sister! It is a cake not the bread! But then again she is French and one doesn't mess with French when it comes to cooking :-) One doesn't mess with a nun ,period.
Anyway if you think we in Herzegovina have had any type of fasting bread, you are wrong. There is no such thing. We do not even have to word in Croatian to translate "fasting bread", it is a nonsense.  Not one person who is seriously fasting would take that "fasting bread"/sister suggested/  and eat it during a fasting day. Simply, there's no penance in it :-) . Also there a different forums on internet where people are discussing different types of bread, even suggesting the good places to buy one.
This summer a man came to my shop with a loaf of bread asking IF that was the fasting bread or he is to look further. We had a great time talking about it and I have tried to explain that we were so poor that it would be considered extremely foolish to put eggs, milk, etc into a bread and  specially not when fasting.
We eat just plain bread. You put some flower ( which ever dear Lord allowed you to have in the house) and you pore some salt and yeast in it and than you mix it with some warm water. Wait over night and put it in the oven That's it! I do admit some of us make really great bread out of these ingredients the secret is in the preparation. And I guess if you really want to fast well you go and by one of those bread loafs from the grocery shops :-) They really make your stomach sick so you have more to offer. . .
You should not be thinking that you will loose something like minerals and vitamins and like wise.
Don't you relay on God?
Will He not sustain us during our fast and provide all that is necessary for our bodies?
Don't we believe he is the vitamin and mineral giver?
He is the giver of life! He will take care of  us. Do not worry.
If are are looking for a "rich bread", "healthier bread", "tasty bread" etc ... what is our sacrifice?
Where is your trust? And where is the love? The fasting becomes all about us, isn't it?
In Wayne book we are reminded of blessed Alexandrina who lived on the Eucharist ALONE for 13 YEARS!
And for us who do eat I repeat the words of dear father Slavko: "When fasting on bread and water you should eat water and drink bread"
Here is something to ponder on during our evening prayers.

The Medjugorje Fasting Book
Fast with the Heart
God bless you all!

Kibeho visionary gives message in Ohio .USA

At the retreat in Canton, Ohio on January 16, 2009:

Immaculee: “Valentine still gets private messages from Our Lady and Our Lord; last night she got a message from Our Lord.”
Valentine: “The message I have for you is, when I left yesterday I didn’t sleep last night, I have a program of prayers I normally have to follow daily that I was given by heaven. So, because yesterday we were busy, and I didn’t get time to do my prayers, I said them when I got to my room. Since I didn’t have much time to sleep, I was actually happy, because it gave me time to pray for you, and to think of you, and to thank God for this great work that is being done. So during my prayer, around 4:00 a.m., Jesus came to visit me. Immaculee will forgive me because in the morning she kept asking me if He came or Our Lady came…and I didn’t give an answer (laughs). He said this to me:”
Jesus: “My children I love you, and I want you to grow in love, I give you my love, do not have fear, do not have fear to pray, don’t have fear to talk about the one you love. Ask me; I will give you, my children I sent you my instrument, because I love you, and because I want her to keep you in prayer. My children, you are my family; pray a prayer that comes from the heart that shows in your action, in your behavior, and in your love that you show your neighbors. Always be ready, because you don’t know the day and time that I will come back. There will be miracles; there will be people who will do miracles in my name, the one who doesn’t pray will not understand. They will come; those who call themselves by my name, but if you remain in my love, you will be given light, you will know what is true and not. I want you to remain wrapped in the mantle of My Mother I love very much, because we never separate, where She is, I am also. Say the Rosary everyday it is your daily food for your soul and body, your daily protection and your spiritual strength. My children, I am love and I give you my love and I promise, I will never leave you alone.”
Valentine: Those are the words He gave me, and then I asked Him, that there is somebody who asked me if He ever gave me any message specifically for America?
Jesus: “Tell them I love you my children.” And then He asked me to sing this song, and He told me, “It is also a message”.
Listen to me little children,
I have given you a heritage of Love,
Make it your goal wherever you go,
Let it be your jewel that you wear day and night,
Do not let anything scare you.
Be good to one another, the other is a part of me as well,
And if the other is being difficult and pushing you away,
Call upon me so we can go together,
I promise you, after time, he/she will change come back in peace,
And if you find that you are the one being difficult, not being loving, call me to help you as
well, you are also sick. Do not worry, I have conquered and have enthroned love.
Valentine:
He told me to give you His message without adding or taking anything away; that is the message He gave me to give you.

Beloved Professor Ralph McInerny passes away :: Catholic News Agency (CNA)

.- The well-loved Notre Dame professor and scholar Ralph McInerny passed away Friday morning at 7:45 a.m. at the age of 83. First Things editor Joseph Bottum reported McInerny's death in an article on the magazine's website on Friday afternoon.
In his article, Bottum reprinted a letter sent to him on Friday by Associate Professor Christopher Kaczor at Loyola Marymount who was one of McInerny's students. Prof. Kaczor describes the late academic's life accomplishments as well as his personal relationship with him.
Ralph McInerny had retired from the philosophy department at the University of Notre Dame as the Michael P. Grace Professor of Medieval Studies after serving in that position since 1955, said Prof. Kaczor.
“He wrote wrote more than 40 books in philosophy and other disciplines (including poetry), authored thousands of scholarly and general audience articles, edited three national magazines, authored more than 80 mystery novels (including the Father Dowling Mysteries), and I’m confident directed more dissertations than anyone in the history of Notre Dame,” wrote Prof. Kaczor.
The Fr. Dowling books eventually became a successful TV series.
McInerny was also credited with co-founding Crisis Magazine in 1982. The monthly lay publication was recognized for its orthodoxy in Catholic opinion.
“One might think such a person would neglect his students, au contraire (a McInerny habit was to end sentences in lectures in Latin or French),” Prof. Kaczor quipped. “He was my dissertation advisor and at the time he had around 7 other students as well. He was available for us virtually every afternoon in his 7th floor office of Hesburgh Library.”
“If we gave him a dissertation chapter, he’d have it back to us like a serve in tennis. He gave us laptops. He arranged for extra funding (many of us had two or three kids, and none of us made more than $10,000 a year). He took us out to lunch (The Great Wall of China and the University Club were favorites). He’d give us copies of his scholarly books and novels. He helped get us jobs.”
“When I think about how I hope to live the rest of my life,” reflected Prof. Kaczor, “he is the model : Scholar, teacher, writer, family man, person of faith. No doubt he is enjoying his reward, meeting his Maker and, as an incidental benefit, his own model of the intellectual life, Thomas Aquinas.”

Commento al messaggio di Medjugorje- padre Livio

Cari amici,
Vostro Padre Livio

New Arch bishop of Belgium had spoken about Medjugorje

"I am convinced, as is also Pope John Paul II, that the time of the Jubilee is a time of special grace, as John Paul II has said several times, that is preparing a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Church. That which I am expecting from Medjugorje is that it contribute to the preparation of that new outpouring of the Holy Spirit which the Church and the world need."
Just over a week ago, Msgr André-Joseph Léonard was appointed Archbishop of Brussels by Pope Benedict XVI, on January 18, 2010, and so became Primate of Belgium.

Archbishop LéonardWhen he was first made a bishop in 1991, Msgr Léonard added the name Mutien to his first name, in honour of his brother. On becoming Archbishop of Mechlen-Brussles he changed the name Mutien to Joseph, in honour of St Joseph, patron saint of Belgium.

Archbishop Léonard was born in May 1940 and is one of four brother who all became priests. He was ordained a priest in July 1964. Twenty years later he made his first ever visit to Medjugojre. On a second visit to Medjugorje when he was bishop of the Belgian city Namur, Msgr Léonard gave this interview to the late Fr Slavko Barbaric OFM which was published in the Medjugorje parish magazine Glas Mira:
Bishop Mutien: “I met Medjugorje through my seminarians. When I was rector of the school of theology at St. Paul in Louvain-la-Neuve, 1982 and 1983, some of my students of theology went to Medjugorje. That was at the very beginning of the apparitions. I had never heard it spoken of before. Some students of theology came to me seeking permission to go to Medjugorje during their vacation. I knew nothing about it and asked them if there existed a position of the Church on Medjugorje. They told me no, that it had only begun a couple of years earlier, and that the Virgin seemed to be appearing there. They gave me an article to read and I told them, “Go and see; go and see!” They spoke to me several times about it, and in 1984 I decided myself to go and see. Four of us priests came with the students of theology to Medjugorje in June1984. I must say that what I saw in the parish church in 1984, that folk piety, the manner in which the rosary was prayed, the Eucharist celebrated, the meeting that I had with the visionaries twice during the “apparitions” in the sacristy – all that seemed to me very positive, especially the manner in which they prayed here.
SB: How many times have you already come to Medjugorje?

Bishop Mutien:
This is my second time. The first time I came in 1984. I kept a very positive impression about what I saw here. Later I kept up being informed. I read the books of Fr Laurentin, not all, but a few. I read some articles and , accordingly, took an interest. Especially while I was a professor at Louvain, I saw among the students some who had been to Medjugorje and who from there had discovered prayer, confession, Eucharist, fasting, and I remember that in the theologate I began fasting Fridays quite regularly, following the example of some of my students of theology or other students whom I met at the university and who had fasted after pilgrimage to Medjugorje. When I became a bishop I met some believers of my diocese who fasted every Friday, who discovered the sacraments, thanks to their encounter with Medjugorje.

I established the fact that regularly among the students of theology there were those who experienced conversion and received a vocation via Medjugorje. Now I have thirty students of theology, among whom there are some who have undergone a spiritual experience here in Medjugorje which has marked their vocation. Such fruits are of interest to me. I know that from false premises according to logic we can draw exact conclusions. But still, the fact that so many positive discoveries take place, just with thanks to Medjugorje, is positive evidence in favor of Medjugorje. Accordingly, I continued to inform myself and said that some day I would be able also to return to Medjugorje.

In the year 2000 I thought I might be able to take advantage of the Jubilee for a short pilgrimage. The fact that at the present time in France and in Belgium there exists much opposition to the Medjugorje events, books which criticise Medjugorje, moved me to come and see with my own eyes. I do not wish to judge things, situations, and persons from a distance, or only from books. I would rather take a little more personal look. After I informed the bishop of Mostar about my coming, I came here as a pilgrim to pray, but also personally to convince myself, and I must say that what I see in the parish church on the pastoral level seems very good: praying the rosary, the Eucharist, adoration, solid devotion, balanced piety and cultivated devotion.

As far as the Medjugorje events are concerned, it is not up to me to decide about that. It up to the local bishop, the bishops of Bosnia-Hercegovina, after a detailed study of the situation, to formulate a judgment about the authenticity or non-authenticity of the apparitions. That is not my business! In every case, I will accept the official judgment of the Church.

SB: Why does the Church hesitate when good fruits are visible?

Bishop Mutien: I think that the Church in her wisdom, with these kinds of phenomena, wishes first to investigate the facts, and only then the fruits. I think that is the rule that Cardinal Seper already formulated when he was prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. First the facts are studied, and only then the fruits. Investigating the fruits is not enough. The facts have to be investigated; but the abundance of positive fruits is in itself a positive evidence, even if it seems to me that there are, as in every human affair, also negative fruits. Wherever there are people, there are also human moments, sometimes far too human. As also among the twelve apostles!

SB: From where does the opposition come?

Bishop Mutien: I understand why questions are asked about the phenomena of Medjugorje and why there exist objections against the apparitions in Medjugorje. I understand why, for example, questions like these are asked: the multitude of apparitions, the fact that in some manner they are foreseen, known for a certain day. I understand why there is opposition. Personally there are not many a priori thoughts about what the Most Blessed Virgin would need to do, or what she would not need to do. I prefer to accept things, even if they disturb my personal ideas, but I understand why questions are asked and I believe that, according to what I have been able to see, there are in this phenomenon of Medjugorje essential things, but there are also parasites.

I believe there exists that which is fundamental, but also accidentals. One is more positive, and the other is more negative. In Lourdes the testimony of Bernadette impressed me very much, I would say 100% pure. It seems to me that here there were parasites surrounding the central events. I understand why questions are asked. I keep informed also on the questions that the opponents of Medjugorje are asking. One has to hear them, and therefore I read the book of Joachim Boufflet from beginning to end. It is written in a polemical tone which does not seem to me to be in place, but there are real questions which are asked and which one day have to receive a clear and historically established answer. Accordingly, I accept those questions, but I wish to stay open to the event.

I know bishop friends whose rule of behavior is to say: “Look out, if we are open to the events of Medjugorje, we can perhaps encourage something that is not authentic.” There exists a risk. I am more sensitive to the opposite risk and say: “Just the same, it is possible that Heaven has spoken to people at that place and I do not wish to take the risk of a priori being closed to that grace.” Two risks exist: the risk that we are being deceived in Medjugorje and the risk that we are bypassing a gift of grace.

SB: A gift from Heaven?

Bishop Mutien: My desire is that those who have the grace and the competence for that, the local bishop, the Bishops’ Conference of Bosnia-Hercegovina, a theological and investigative commission, continue to study this phenomenon, to formulate one day the judgment of the Church about what has happened here. Until then, between the two risks, I prefer to take the risk of being open rather than the risk of a priori being closed to the grace of God which can be operating in this place. Accordingly, therefore, I take the position of openness and prudence.

SB: Some say: “Where there is prayer, there is grace and miracles.”

Bishop Mutien: That logic does not seem to me completely correct. It is true that in the place where there is prayer, Eucharist, confessions, fruits do come. But there are many other places in the world where there is prayer, where there is confession, where Eucharist is celebrated, but there are not the same kind of evident fruits!

SB: You, then, think that this dimension can be attributed to the apparitions?

Bishop Mutien: I believe that it is an indication which has to be studied, an indication that leads to consideration. I regularly meet young people who think about the priesthood or who have had a profound experience of conversion coming here, much more so than in relation to other places, and that makes me question. I cannot accept without reservation that the fruits of Medjugorje are connected only with the living of the sacraments. They are also lived in other places. Here there exists something that presents a special question. It is not up to me to pronounce about the reality of these fundamentals, but there is a question that cannot be avoided.

SB: Finally, is it your wish to give some message here to the world?

Bishop Mutien: I think that on the spiritual plane we are living in a period that demands urgency. I am convinced, as is also Pope John Paul II, that the time of the Jubilee is a time of special grace, as John Paul II has said several times, that is preparing a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Church. That which I am expecting from Medjugorje is that it contribute to the preparation of that new outpouring of the Holy Spirit which the Church and world need. Therefore I think that it is more useful to concentrate on the most fundamental, as you are doing here in this parish: to concentrate on the Eucharist which is the source of Christian life, and for the rest I think we need to cultivate the grace of peace and seek for the discernment in connection with Medjugorje to be done in the best possible climate, for the good of the Church.

Italian Vaticanist Andrea Tornielli has published unedited material in his latest book on John Paul II, titled Santo Subito or Immediate Saint.

Padre Livio new book

Father Livio Fanzaga, director of Radio Maria, always deserves to be read and heard.
In particular, his latest wonderful work - "The Secrets of Medjugorje. The Queen of Peace reveals the future of the world, "Piemme, 236 pages, 15 euro - written with Diego Manetti, unveils deserves because that message on 14 April 1982, Madonna announced to the visionaries. A message which says: "You must know that Satan exists. One day he presented himself before the throne of God and asked permission to groped the church for a time with the intention of destroying it. God allowed Satan to bring the church to the test for a century and added: 'Do not destroy it'. This century in which you live is under the power of Satan, but when they realized the secrets that I have entrusted his power will be broken. Already he begins to lose its power and therefore has become more aggressive: It destroys marriages, raises discord even among the souls consecrated Case obsessions, causes murders. So protect yourself by fasting and prayer, especially community. Caryy the  blessed objects and bring them  even in your homes. And resume the use of holy water. "

Come Bob Brett...
«Bob sa guidarmi in ogni dettaglio.

This is how the Medjugorje star is presented at ATP world tour web page where you can find all his professional records.
His latest success in Australia made me feel very proud and interested in tennis too :-) I have lost much of interest after Ivanišecić stopped playing .
Anyways we wish Mrnja a lot of Gods blessings in future play against Andy Murray on January 28th
Marin said, in his phone call to his father, he will win Murray in another five sets while his father wished it to be only three to shorten the  stress :-)  I can second that too!

Benedict's Revolution: The Return of the Old Latin Mass

When the secular media suddenly start talking about Catholic liturgy, something is afoot in the life of the Church. By the second year of Pope Benedict XVI's pontificate, that's exactly what happened. The New York Times, theWashington Post, the Los Angeles TimesU.S. News and World Report -- the subject was everywhere.

The reason for all this attention was the pope's long-awaited motu proprio that would make the traditional Latin Mass of the pre-conciliar Church (or the 1962 Missal) more widely available. That used to be considered a dangerous idea. It's now mainstream.

The consensus today -- which echoes the conclusion of a blue-ribbon commission of cardinals in 1986 -- is that although Pope Paul VI had devoutly wished that the new missal would supplant the old, no action officially suppressing the traditional liturgy was ever taken, and thus the old missal, even if largely eclipsed in practice, has continued to be a living part of the Church these past four decades.

This is the view of -- among other Vatican officials -- Darío Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos, president of the Ecclesia Dei Commission and former prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, and Jorge Cardinal Medina Estévez, former prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship. It also happens to be the view of Benedict, who noted in his letter to bishops that "this Missal was never juridically abrogated and, consequently, in principle, was always permitted." The 1986 Commission added that any priest ought to be able to choose which missal he wanted to use. Initially sympathetic, Pope John Paul II ultimately shelved the idea.

What We Lost

With the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum, the idea of freedom for the old missal -- and not just the Mass but all the sacraments, and even the old Breviary -- is back.

The secular media, so often wrongheaded and hostile when it comes to the Church, were correct to sense that Benedict's desire to bring back the traditional liturgy was something momentous. Still, some managed to get the issue entirely wrong: Some people want "Mass in English," they report, but others want "Mass in Latin." But the issue at stake has never been merely one of language. It is a question of two different liturgical books and two different ways of saying Mass.

Benedict's move is an act of generosity, justice, and simple common sense. When the Church possesses something of priceless worth like the Missal of St. Pius V -- which is itself the consummation of centuries of gradual development -- and when some of her faithful seek to nourish their souls at its copious font of grace, who could be so petty as to deny it to them? Snowing .... again !!!

This morning another surprise of snowfall for us here ... Schools are not working and those that are working are just enabling  kids to have a LOT of FUN out on snow. Most of the traffic  has been stopped. As we do not have any means to clear our roads, we have to manage on our own capabilities ( and those of our cars ) to get us around our " must be done today" affairs.
Emanuel had to give up on driving Luka to Mostar health clinic even that should fall into the previously mentioned group of affair  ...  :-) It is true the kid is ill but then again after seeing a bus sideways in the middle of the main road he opt to come back home and just pray for Luka to get by today without treatment.
I am still very ill and mostly laying down in bed. Sara is much better after one week of medicine and I hope that's it for this winter . Thank you Jesus!
Emanuel is the husband and the father of the decade! Or even a century... Doing everything for me and for the children, all the house work and our little business. I wonder if there is a list where one can vote ?!
God bless you all !
